Delft Tile Panel (Christ)

Delft tile wall picture of  Christ on the Cross with the letters I.N.R.I above his head ("Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorm", Jesus of Nazareth), 18th century.  The color is a Manganese based purple which was introduced in the later part of the 17th century and used as an alternative to the typical blue color.  These tiles typically adorned round chimney places, corridors, round staircases, kitchen walls, and lintels (supporting beams). 17"X 12"
